Virginia Ann’s Angels helps caretakers and families affected by HD feel less alone as they navigate the mammoth of the medical system, estate decisions, and the complex emotions that accompany the blessing and the burden that is caretaking. Just even learning about Virginia Ann's Angels—that someone understood how long a family's journey with HD can be and would found an organization for this rare disease--imparted energy and a renewed sense of purpose as the primary caretaker for my mother. Specifically, this May my widowed mother could no longer safely live in her home of over 55 years. Significant travel was required from Maine to NYC to assist in stabilizing her and assuming responsibilities as power of attorney. Virginia Ann's Angels helped offset these travel costs at a time of major family transition. But they also did something that I will remember much longer than any financial statement: as my mother entered a further stage of her HD journey, good Samaritans extended genuine good will to counterbalance a cruel disease.
